South Sudan graduates first batch of unified forces

The first unified armed forces of South Sudan are graduating, making them the first police and army officers trained for national service since independence was declared in 2011.

Nichola Mandil is a journalist in the capital Juba. He told Newsday: “For the people of South Sudan it is a sense of relief because these soldiers…are expected to maintain security and bring the level of violence down and this is what South Sudanese will call peace.”
