Gunman tries to assassinate Argentina's Vice President
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was threatened by a man with a gun whilst interacting with supporters.
Argentina's Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was threatened by a man with a gun on Thursday, in what one government colleague described as an assassination attempt.
Footage shows the moment Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, surrounded by a mob of supporters, came face-to-face with the loaded weapon. She was not harmed and no shots were fired.
The former president was returning home from court, where she faces allegations of corruption. She denies the charges. Police said the gunman, who local media identified as a 35-year-old Brazilian man, has been arrested.
For more details about the attack and criminal in question, Newsday spoke to Mariana Segulin, a journalist from TN, a TV network in Argentina.
She recalls the incident saying that the man; "pointed a gun to her [Fernandez de Kirchner's] head when she was like 20cm away [...] it was like she didn't realise what was happening."
