Pakistan floods: Newborn baby pulled from mud

Pregnant women and babies in Pakistan are facing great risks.

Pakistan is still reeling from devastating floods which have hit areas right across the country and affected around 33 million people. More than 1,300 people, including an estimated 458 children have been killed, according to Pakistan's National Disaster Management Agency.

Emerging from this natural disaster however is one "miracle" story that has been shared many times across social media - a newborn being found alive among debris. The video shows a baby pulled from the ground after being buried in mud, with its umbilical cord still attached.

Many pregnant women and newborn babies are currently at risk in Pakistan. Traditionally, a lot of women living in villages give birth to babies at home. Now that floods have destroyed their homes, they have been forced to live in flood relief camps, where many of them lack facilities and resources.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s reporter in Karachi, Sahar Baloch told Newsday, "The scale of this disaster is huge, many people within the administration are now realising how huge this disaster has been."
