Ukraine's rail system keeps on running despite war

Russia attacked civilian infrastructure in Eastern Ukraine at the weekend, hitting power stations in Kharkiv with missiles, which cut electricity to various towns in the region. It was thought to be in response to the recent offensive by Ukraine in which some 6,000 sq. kilometres has been re-captured from Russian troops.

Despite the loss of power, the CEO of Ukrainian Railways, Alexander Kamyshin told Newsday that trains are running on time: “For us, it’s really, really, really important to bring people the belief that the connection is back once our military troops retake the territories.”
