Kenya Election 2022: William Ruto sworn in as president
William Ruto has been sworn in as Kenya's fifth president. Around 20 heads of state from across Africa attended the event. His opponent, Raila Odinga, did not attend, maintaining that he had "serious concerns" about Mr Ruto's victory. Kenya's Supreme Court has ruled the election was free and fair.
During his campaign, Mr Ruto promised women would play a bigger role in his government with at least 50% of cabinet roles.
Mercy Mwangi, programme coordinator for the Kenyan Women Parliamentary Association says he must deliver on both his campaign promises and existing constitutional laws that guarantee women political power.
