Italy Election: Giorgia Meloni claims victory

Georgia Meloni has insisted that if, as expected, she becomes prime minister, she will govern on behalf of all Italians

Latest results from the election in Italy suggest that the far-right Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d'Italia) party and its allies will have a solid majority in both houses of parliament.

The Brothers' leader, Georgia Meloni has insisted that if, as expected, she becomes prime minister, she will govern on behalf of all Italians.

Francesca Donato is a Member of the European Parliament who represents Italy as an independent. She told Newsday: “The definition of far right for Fratelli d'Italia is totally not correct…it’s totally false. It’s just like we would say all leftist parties of Europe are descendants of Stalin…Fratelli is just a conservative party, as all other conservative parties of Europe are…but prejudices against new governments, the new parties arriving to power is obvious. Now we will see how she will handle this big responsibility that Italians have given to her.”
