US rapper Coolio dies aged 59
US entertainer Coolio, best known for his music, has died at the age of 59.
Coolio, whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr, was best known for his 1995 song Gangsta's Paradise which was part of the soundtrack for the Hollywood movie, Dangerous Minds.
He was in the middle of a tour with other 90s rap icons including Vanilla Ice and Young MC, and they performed in Texas just a few days ago. His manager said the star died from a heart attack.
To find out about the star's career, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Newsday spoke to music journalist David Ma in San Francisco, California.
"He originated in the late 80s…he made…anthemic songs that also dealt with real life issues like poverty and welfare."
"He seemed to have been friends with everyone."
