Trevor Noah: TV star steps down from The Daily Show
The South African comedian who brought diversity to US late night TV is stepping down from the popular satirical show.
The South African comedian, Trevor Noah, has become a household name in the US among late night TV fans on the satirical programme: The Daily Show.
Though audiences on the African continent knew him for stand up, Trevor became an international star after taking over from long-time Daily Show presenter John Stewart. And he defied those who felt he wouldn't be able to fill the shoes of his predecessor.
He won over millions of fans and last night they had their hearts broken when he announced he was stepping down from the show, news of which has been trending ever since as Anousha Sakoui - entertainment industry reporter for the LA Times – told ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Newsday:
"He's been on the show since 2014... as one of their correspondents when Jon Stewart was still helming, then in 2015 he took over... to his own surprise he was chosen and at first it was a ratings disaster; but over the years he has rebuilt the following especially among younger audiences."
"Where he has thrived is taking on some of the biggest topics... of race, immigration and policing - challenging many politicians on their positions. And [he] delivered one of the most powerful monologues on the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed. He's definitely changed the face of the show in more ways than one."
