Renouncing Russian citizenship: ‘It was the only thing I could do’
The war in Ukraine has widespread ramifications for people and economies around the world.
For some Russians living abroad who disagree with the war, renouncing their citizenship has been a way to express frustration with their country’s actions.
Dr Maria Naymark lives in London and first thought about taking that step in 2014 when Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine. But when the invasion began this February, she says it became “an obvious decision” for her.
