How the sounds we hear may affect our wellbeing
There has been an increasing interest in the possible benefits of listening to background noise for relaxation. This is not music, but a constant neutral noise. Most people have heard of white noise but there are others.
For example, violet sound is said to help those with tinnitus relax. While brown noise is reported to be popular for people who have ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
So how useful can such noises be to us reduce stress or help with relaxation?
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Newsday heard from Dr Alex Dimitriu, a psychiatrist and sleep medicine specialist who founded the Silicon-psych practice in California.
But first, you'll hear a sample of that kaleidoscope of sounds - from violet to white to pink to brown.
