Uganda's president apologises to Kenya for son's controversial tweets

President Yoweri Museveni has issued a public apology to Kenya following controversial tweets that his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba posted about invading neighbouring country Kenya.

Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has issued a public apology to Kenya following controversial tweets from his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The president was forced to sack his son as commander of the country's land forces after he posted a message on twitter suggesting his army would need only two weeks to capture the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, in one of a series of controversial tweets.

President Museveni has asked Kenyans for "forgiveness" following the tweets.

Though the president fired his son from the position of Commander of the army's land forces, he also promoted him to the rank of full General.

Many people in Uganda believe that General Kainerugaba wishes to succeed his father as leader of Uganda.

Lawyer and activist Agatha Atuhaire told Newsday, "It seemed that he could easily plunge the country into conflict with their neighbours. And his father has called an army meeting... where he told him specifically to desist from discussing army issues on twitter."
