What will Google's $1bn investment in South Africa mean for Africans?
The investment could contribute over $2 billion to South Africa’s economy, and Google aims to create thousands of jobs across the continent.
The American technology giant, Google, says it will set up an African cloud service in South Africa, as part of its $1 billion investment plan for the continent.
It's thought this investment could contribute over $2 billion to South Africa’s economy, and create thousands of jobs across the continent.
The plan includes setting up a cloud region in South Africa in efforts to help businesses and individuals access localised data storage services easily.
It will also help internet users, developers, businesses, and educational institutions across Africa, move more information and tools online, and improve access for customers according to the company.
One of the beneficiaries of the service is "Quote This Woman+", a South African organisation aiming to increase female voices in African media.
The organisation's Director is Kathleen Magrobi, and she spoke to Newsday about her business.
Speaking of her start-up she says, "We have no physical infrastructure at all, other than our own laptops, which is amazing".
