Former UK government minister: 'An extraordinary period in British politics'
The British prime minister Liz Truss has made another policy reversal on taxation and sacked her chief finance minister - known as the Chancellor in the UK - Kwasi Kwarteng, as she tries to restore economic stability.
Turmoil in the UK's financial markets began after the government announced changed to the country's budget, which among other measures, included nearly $50bn of unfunded tax cuts.
Kwasi Kwarteng had only been in the post for 38 days, and his sacking means the governing Conservative Party is now on to its fifth chancellor in just three years.
Former Conservative MP and a former Foreign Office minister, Alistair Burt, says the events of recent months has been "an extraordinary period" in British politics.
