Xi Jinping has opened a key Communist Party summit highlighting China鈥檚 growing strength under his first decade in power. However, he also underscored the risks and challenges the country faces, among them reunification with Taiwan. He denounced 鈥渇oreign interference鈥� for exacerbating tensions, adding that the Taiwan issue is China鈥檚 own problem to solve.

Lin Ching-Yi is an MP from the Democratic Progressive Party in Taipei. She told Newsday: 鈥淴i鈥檚 speech does not deliver any tiny space for peaceful dialogue between Taiwan and China鈥�Taiwanese are tired about this one-man show鈥�Xi uses democracy to destroy democracy.鈥�
