Seoul mourns Halloween goers crushed in stampede

Investigators in South Korea are examining video footage from more than 50 sources to understand how 154 Halloween revellers were killed in a crush in Seoul.

South Korea is still reeling from the tragic crush on the streets of the capital Seoul which left at least 154 people dead.

Survivors there have been speaking of their horror at watching friends and strangers suffocate in an alleyway as dance music blared into the night during Halloween celebrations.

The South Korean president, Yoon Suk-yeol, has opened a memorial to the victims; together with his wife, he laid a single white flower at a huge altar set up in central Seoul. But there's growing anger in the city that police failed to control crowds that had built up in the popular Itaewon district.

We found out more from Kelly Kasulis Cho who is a reporter for the Washington Post in Seoul.

People had told her that "their weight at first was shifted side to side and then suddenly their feet are no longer touching the ground... only her head and neck were above piles of people and everyone around her was screaming and then unfortunately they fell silent because they had become unconscious from the crushing conditions of the crowd."
