Lisa Squire: ‘Libby meant more to me than just giving up’
Lisa Squire’s daughter Libby was raped and murdered in Hull in 2019. Lisa now campaigns for prisoners convicted of murder to serve an automatic whole life tariff.
She told 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty that she spoke to former prime minister Boris Johnson about this law-change, but his response was “we don’t have enough prison space”.
“Longer prison sentences don’t deter criminals,” Boris said.
Lisa argued that more prisons should be built and if “[a longer sentence] doesn’t deter the criminal, then should they be out anyway?”
She said that she wouldn’t stop campaigning until her “last breath”.
“Libby meant more to me than just giving up.”
