Russia-Ukraine War: ‘Putin won’t negotiate’
Former Zelensky spokesperson says Putin is using ‘negotiation message just to take more time to prepare his military’
The US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, has said Washington is maintaining channels of communication with the Russian presidency in accordance with America's national interest. Mr Sullivan made the comments following newspaper reports that he has been holding talks with his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, to prevent a nuclear escalation in the conflict in Ukraine.
His comments coincide with other newspaper reports, which suggest that the administration is encouraging Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to start peace talks with Russia, warning if he fails to, international support for his country could start to falter.
Iuliia Mendel is a former Spokesperson to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and author of The Fight of Our Lives. She told Newsday: “Ukraine was willing to negotiate at the very beginning…but if we go and negotiate right now, Putin will just continue…It’s Putin who does not want to negotiate. He tries to use this negotiating message just to take more time to prepare his military, to prepare re-grouping, to get more weapons…to keep attacking Ukraine.â€
