Malawi's president addresses climate change issues

'Why are we continuously going around the same issues? Over and over again?'

One of the issues up for discussion at the UN's climate summit, COP27 in Egypt is how heavily polluting industries such as oil and gas extraction can reduce their emissions using innovative techniques.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Peter Okwowche has been speaking to the President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera about this.

President Chawera says countries across the African continent are being asked to develop renewable energy systems, however it takes financial incentive to do that, and other developed countries should provide finance for this. He also says that due to geopolitical issues, some countries are now once again considering the use of oil, coal, and gas, to meet scare energy supplies.

He says: "From COP1 all the way to COP27, why are we continuously going around the same issues? Over and over again, it's because somebody doesn't want to pay up, in fact now with all these geopolitical issues going on, they want to go back to what they said they wouldn't use anymore."
