Martin Lewis discusses the Autumn Statement
Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt has now delivered the Autumn Statement.
With changes to benefits, pensions, interest rates, inflation, energy bills, tax thresholds, minimum wage and more, personal finance expert Martin Lewis joined 5 Live’s Nihal Arthanayake with some initial reaction and number explainers.
“The real effect on people is that over the next year things are going to be pretty tough, primarily because we have such a high rate of inflation… everything we’re doing here is to try and catch up with the runaway inflation car,” he says.
“With the huge hits on the cost of living that are coming out there, life would simply be unaffordable for many people... but hopefully what we’ve heard today, will mean more will get through this than they would’ve otherwise,” he continues.
