Twin peaks: Brothers' mission to climb every national highpoint

For more than a decade, a pair of twin brothers from the United States have set out to measure and discover new high points of mountains in countries around the world, in some cases surveying the mountains to confirm the highest peak and rewriting the record books as they do so.

Their quest has led them to more than 100 countries, including places less travelled across the Middle East and West Africa.

Brothers Eric and Matthew Gilbertson shared their motivation and some of the challenges they encountered with ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Newsday.

"We started out as a family to visit all 50 US states... then every highest point in every country."

"In Saudi Arabia we rewrote the record books... and in Togo, Guinea Bissau and The Gambia."
