Davina explains why women needn’t fear the menopause.
Presenter and author Davina McCall has been campaigning to increase awareness of the menopause and telling women why they shouldn’t be afraid of a “natural process when [you] age”.
Davina spoke to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty about the common misconception that women feel as though their “losing their oestrogen, their sex drive and their motivation,” as they enter menopause.
She discussed with Naga why the menopause reflects both your physical and emotional capabilities. Naga explained why she “wants to [still be able to have] sex”.
“Women are expected to work busy lives until their mid-60s, I would like to carry on working for longer than that,” Davina added.
She said, “the beginning perimenopause [can feel] like the closing of one door and the opening of another,” that it’s a time of grieving for the loss of “your childbearing years”.
She explained that women must “understand you’re not saying goodbye to fun or youthful playfulness”.
“I’m having more fun now than I have in a long time.”
