Aid groups in Afghanistan suspend operations
Five major international aid groups have suspended their operations in Afghanistan following a decision by the Taliban to ban women from working at non-governmental organisations.
Save the Children, the International Rescue Committee and the Norwegian Refugee Council are among those who say they can not effectively reach people in need without the women in their workforces.
Kate Clark is the co-director of the Afghanistan Analysts Network, an independent non-profit policy research organisation. She told Newsday: “It’s a matter of principle…and…practicality. You have to have women workers to reach women and children.”
