Is Taiwan threatened by China?

China has flown war planes into Taiwan’s air defence zone over the years, and this nearly doubled in 2022.

Beijing has recently increased threats towards the country, which is at the junction of the east and south China seas.

China considers it part of their territory, but Taiwanese authorities say it has never been and never will be part of China.

It has become a contentious topic in relations between Taiwan, China, and the USA.

So what do Taiwanese make of this situation and do they feel threatened?

Kolas Yotaka is a politician in Taiwan, and a former Taiwan presidential office spokesperson.

She told Newsday "We are threatened and are being attacked all the time. Most people are calm. We are facing different kinds of threats from China, such as cyber-attacks, misinformation, military drills, and economic cohesion, but we are used to it, we are resilient, and we are not intimated."
