What do we know about China's Covid surge?
China's government has suggested that travel restrictions imposed by several countries on Chinese arrivals are politically motivated, and has warned that it may retaliate.
The country has recently seen a massive surge in Covid cases following the easing of its strict controls and there are fears that cases and deaths are being vastly under-reported.
In response, the World Health Organization has urged Beijing to share more information with other countries about the current situation.
Infectious disease expert Dr Paul Tambyah is president of the Asia Pacific Society of Clinical Microbiology, who has also been a key figure in the battle to contain the virus in the Asian region.
He says, "I think there is no doubt there's a big surge in cases in China. The big question is we don't know the severity or impact on the healthcare system."
