US politics: more votes, more concessions but still no speaker
For an historic eleventh time, hardline US Republicans have prevented their party's candidate from being elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The US is entering into round 12 of a bruising bout where the Republican Party is getting battered; the House of Representatives has endured a third unsuccessful day of voting for who will fill the role of speaker.
However, US Republican Congressman, Kevin McCarthy, insists he's making progress in his campaign to become the next speaker of the House of Representatives. But he refused to set a deadline, having lost eleven ballots so far this week.
The deadlock leaves the chamber without sworn-in members and unable to pass legislation. So how much longer can this impasse continue for and what damage is it doing?
We found out from Seth Weathers, Republican strategist and political director for former President, Donald Trump in the state of Georgia.
He says: "A lot of people are making this out to be that the sky is falling but nothing has happened... what's the rush? We need to rush sending another few billion dollars to Ukraine? The sky has not fallen because congress is squabbling. This is not the first time this has happened...this isn't the worst we've seen."
