In 1958, the late safety engineer Nils Bohlin was tasked with creating a car safety belt that actually worked.

Before then, seat belts were designed in such a way as to cause passengers to experience severe abdominal or neck injuries if they had a crash.

But not everyone welcomed Nils’ design.

His stepson Gunnar Örnmark looks back at the journey of the three-point seat belt.
