North Korea's youth snubbing mountain pilgrimage
Mount Baektu is the Korean peninsula's tallest mountain, and the reputed birthplace of the late North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Il. It’s a place of pilgrimage and an invitation to make the climb is usually considered a big deal.
However, as reported by the online newspaper, Daily NK, more young people are snubbing the annual opportunity.
Daily NK’s Robert Lauler says it’s significant as young people are increasingly “less loyal” to the regime than previous generations.
