Israelis and Palestinians clash in Huwara, West Bank

A town is set ablaze and Palestinians killed in revenge attacks after two Israeli boys were murdered in the same place.

Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank have set fire to Palestinian houses, shops and vehicles, killing one Palestinian man, after two Israelis were earlier shot dead in the same place.

The shooting of the settlers took place in Huwara, south of Nablus in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, just days after a massive Israeli military raid into Nablus in search of wanted militants left at least 11 Palestinians dead.

The Palestinian Red Cross has said it has treated nearly four-hundred wounded people - many of them from inhaling teargas fired by Israeli security forces.

Palestinians on social media have voiced outrage at the scale of the rioting. However, protesting Israeli settlers said they were demanding that the security forces deal with the violence in the area.

A meeting has been called by Jordan in the port city of Aqaba, to discuss the latest developments.

Newsday spoke to Libby Lenkinski from the New Israel Fund.
