Helping the Afghan Children Banned from School
"It's like a light in a very dark tunnel" - one Afghan schoolgirl welcomes the new lessons being provided by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.
"It's like a light in a very dark tunnel" is how one Afghan schoolgirl describes the new lessons being provided by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ for students aged 11 to 16. Girls have been banned by the Taleban from going to school, but now the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is offering teaching through the radio, satellite television and the internet. The lessons are partly based on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Bitesize home study service offered to pupils during the pandemic. Shazia Haya fled Afghanistan in 2021 and is one of the teachers. She hears reaction from pupils - and talks about her own experience.
