Evan Gershkovich's friend describes his first month in Russian prison
It's a month since Evan Gershkovich was detained while on a reporting trip to the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. He's since been charged with espionage and appeared in court.
The Wall Street Journal reporter is the first US journalist to be jailed in Russia since the end of the Cold War. He's currently being held in Moscow's Lefortovo prison, awaiting trial. Earlier this week, Moscow turned down a US request for a consular visit - because Russian journalists who wanted to go with the Russian Foreign Minister - Sergei Lavrov - to the United Nations in New York had been refused visas.Â
Newshour's James Coomarasamy has been talking to Polina Ivanova, is a journalist with the Financial Times and a close friend of Evan's. She's written about her friend's month behind bars.
