Carl Frampton: When boxing came before my family
Two-time boxing world champion, Carl Frampton, has had a widely decorated career but it hasn’t come without sacrifice.
In a new ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ documentary, Carl Frampton: Men in Crisis, he’s been exploring the prevalence of suicide and mental illness among young men.
Speaking on 5 Live’s Nicky Campbell phone-in he describes a stand-out moment that tested his relationship with his mental health.
‘My wife had a tragedy in her family where two of her family members died but I was in training camps for fights…I never went home to support her,’ he remembers.
‘It still eats me up…people talk about sportsmen have to be selfish to get to the top but there’s a balance,’ he says.
