World’s first 3D fish fillets from printer to plate
An Israeli company says it has 3D-printed the first ever ready-to-cook fish fillet using animal cells grown in a laboratory.
Lab-grown beef and chicken have drawn attention as a way to get around the environmental issues linked to farming. But few companies have explored lab-grown seafood.
Arik Kaufman is the CEO of Steakholder Foods, an Israeli start-up and one of two companies that collaborated on the project, alongside Singapore-based Umami Meats. He told Newsday that the 3D-printed fish has been created “with almost zero emissions… We don’t harm animals in the process. We believe it’s the future of food consumption.”
