Africa Cup of Nations: CAR seeks historic win
The head coach of the Central African Republic football team has told Newsday how the country’s president has asked the team to help bring about peace in the war-torn nation by making history on the pitch this weekend.
Central African Republic and Angola are set to battle it out at the Stade de la Reunification in Douala, Cameroon, on Saturday 17 June in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
CAR are second in their group, with two qualifying games to play, just one point behind leaders Ghana and two ahead of Angola.
Raoul Savoy said: “We are going to fight and qualify and then send Angola home...(the president) said, ‘help us to put peace in the country’ and I think that’s the social way of the game.”
