Windrush 75 Years On - The truth about my father

June was just 8 when she last saw her father. She thought he'd abandoned her. In fact, Joseph was just one of hundreds of sick patients repatriated to the Caribbean.

ѿý News has uncovered evidence showing that hundreds of chronically sick and mentally ill patients from the Windrush Generation were repatriated – despite being entitled to remain in Britain, where they were receiving treatment. Legal experts have told the ѿý that the practice of sending patients back to their countries of birth in the Caribbean during the 1950s, 60s and 70s may have been unlawful. The families of those affected are calling for an inquiry into the issue, which has been described as “worse than the Windrush Scandal” of five years ago. The government has called the ѿý's findings an "historic injustice". In this episode of 5 Minutes On, the ѿý's Midlands Correspondent, Navtej Johal, shares June's story.
