South African DJ Lakuti curates a playlist called "Shebeen Queens in South Africa" featuring tracks by Lumumba, Egoli, Charisma, and more.
Lakuti is a DJ born in Soweto in South Africa, who since the early 90s has organised underground parties around the world. In 2007 she founded Uzuri Recordings, and later Uzuri artist Management. She鈥檚 also a resident at Berlin鈥檚 legendary Panorama Bar.
Her playlist "Shebeen Queens of South Africa" is a collection of songs celebrating the unsung women who provided spaces for black musicians to flourish in times when things were not so open for them.
