Thapelo Ray first met presenter Sandra Godley when he won a competition at The Belgrade Theatre. Since then he's been determined to keep on developing his skills and following his dreams to be an actor. He's just been cast as Dwayne in Waterloo Road, filming this series in Manchester and doing his A'Levels at the same time!

Thapel's character Dwayne is a troubled, fierce boy who is in foster care. What the casting team didn't know was that Thapel himself had been in the care system since birth, so this role felt extremely personal. He said at the times it has been difficult to play him, but also quite healing.
