Meet the four finalists in our Together category.

The four finalists in the ѿý Essex Make A Difference Awards 2023 “Together” category are (in alphabetical order):

Finding Your Feet, which is a programme of weekly walks in the Braintree area which aim to bring people together to improve health and wellbeing. The group also streams online into care homes and for those who can’t leave their own homes through ill health.

Corrina Hayzelden from Rochford. She’s responsible for setting up many community groups in the area, including a “United in Strides” walking group in Hockley which brings people together for health benefits and to socialise, helping people form lasting friendships and even helping some members to deal with grief.

Mike Sutton, a chef from Rayleigh who, every week, cooks meals for Ukrainian refugees in the Rayleigh area and helps to bring them together, sometimes with more than 200 refugees in attendance, and he has never once asked for reimbursement.

Lawrence Walker, who has been nominated posthumously after passing away earlier in 2023. Described as “the Colchester legend”, he’s credited with changing the lives of countless people in the city through his work as chairman of Black History Month as well as countless other endeavours in the black and ethnic minority community.

The four finalists will find out if they have won at the ѿý Essex Make A Difference Awards ceremony on 21 September 2023. Good luck!
