Essex defeat a blow to Hampshire's title aspirations.
Hampshire lost a low scoring championship match at home to Essex to suffer a blow to any title aspirations they had.
Its fifty years since they lost won the County championship, and a six wicket defeat in just over two days is a blow.
The pitch at the Ageas Bowl was tricky for batting. "They coped with conditions slightly better than we did" said skipper James Vince.
"The pitch didn't play the way we wanted it to or expected it to."
"We needed another 40 or 50 runs (on the third morning), to give us a chance."
