Kayaker born without limbs: ‘I didn’t have role models when I was young’
John spoke to 5 Live Drive’s Tony Livesey about the importance of inclusivity for those with special needs.
He said: “I’ve seen special needs kids just grinning from ear to ear when they score a goal [or] get the the nearest Bocchia ball to the jack, just because they’ve been allowed to do it.”
He kayaked the 108-mile journey from Cricklade in Wiltshire to Eton in Berkshire without prosthetics - instead using a ring attached to the paddle which was rotated by his elbows to create resistance and pull.
Finishing: “I didn’t have role models when I was young, and I’m really, really keen that people can see that this is possible.”
