Sepsis survivor: ‘The doctors called my family and told them to expect the worst’
Beth Budgen, from Newbury in Berkshire, thought she just had a cold when she woke up feeling ill on Christmas Eve.
But she started developing agonising pain the next day, vomited blue liquid and was rushed to A&E in Basingstoke.
She was diagnosed with sepsis and spent seven months in hospital where her legs and parts of her fingers were amputated
She spoke to 5 Live Drive’s Clare McDonnell: “I remember calling her and saying Lisa [her sister] they’re going to take my legs off so apparently that’s a thing”.
Back home, Beth now wants to spread awareness of the symptoms of sepsis - a disease that some refer to as the ‘hidden killer’.
