‘I started writing letters to my younger self’
Former X Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan has spoken about coping with her mental health, reflecting on her actions when she was young, “I [was] writing letters to any version of me from the past”.
Lucy told 5 Live’s Nihal Arthanayake, “I started writing these letters to teenage me, who was really naughty… I was arrested, constantly in fights and very confused about my sexuality.”
She described the benefits behind writing these letters: “It’s the first time I’ve extended compassion to myself… we think children are innoncent and don’t deserve [these feelings]- that’s how I feel now about adult me”.
“Sometimes bad things happen that are out of your control, and sometimes things happen in your control, but it’s all about compassion – I have compassion for myself for all the bad choices I’ve made.”
