It's been six months since the earthquakes that devastated parts of Turkey and Syria...and claimed the lives of over 50,000 people.

One of those lives was that of the former Chelsea and Newcastle footballer, Christian Atsu. He was thirty-one-years old.

Christian鈥檚 partner, Claire, told 5 Live鈥檚 Naga Munchetty that she received a phone call delivering the news in the early hours of the morning, 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 cry because I was still in shock, 鈥� she said.

鈥淚 was still hoping for a good outcome because they were still pulling out people alive鈥� I believed 鈥榟e鈥檚 a strong man and he will survive this.鈥�

Claire and Christian have three children together, who were ages nine, six and three, at the time.

鈥淭o tell a child their dad is not there anymore, it鈥檚 not something you want to wish on anybody鈥�
