Bibby Stockholm: Target reached to fund legal challenge against barge
An online fundraising page, to finance a planning challenge against the Bibby Stockholm accommodation barge docked at Portland Port, has exceeded its initial target of £15,000.
It was launched by Portland's Mayor, Labour Councillor Carralyn Parkes, as a private individual. Carralyn told Steve Harris that more donations will be needed to continue challenging the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office and raising £15,000 is simply the "first hurdle" for serving the government with legal papers.
The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office has previously told us the welfare of those in its care is of the utmost priority and that the accommodation provided is safe and appropriate, adding "this is a tried-and-tested approach that mirrors that taken by our European neighbours, the Scottish government and offers better value for the British taxpayer."
