Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy will focus on flooding in new Shadow Minister role
The Hull West and Hessle MP has been promoted as a Labour Party Shadow Minister. Emma Hardy will work with the shadow team within the Department for Environment. Food and Rural Affairs and one area she’ll focus on is flooding. She says: “A huge part of this brief is focusing on flooding, which is why I wanted it because there is so much we need to change with flood protection and mitigation if we are serious about protecting places like Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.” Listen to Emma Hardy's interview in full here with ѿý Political Reporter Sarah Sanderson. A spokesperson from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said: “We are committed to reducing the devastating impact of flooding on people’s homes and livelihoods across the country. That’s why we are investing a record £5.2 billion between 2021 and 2027 to better protect hundreds of thousands of properties. On top of this, our long-term plan on flood and coastal erosion risk management will accelerate progress to better protect and prepare the country for future flooding and coastal erosion. The Humber Estuary is one of four areas benefiting from £8m in total to trial and develop ways of planning ahead to adapt to flood risk and making investment choices for decades to come."
