Martin Lewis: 'We have to look at the longer term even if there might be some short-term pain for going'

5 Live hears from teenagers about the conversations they are having and the challenges facing them in 2023.

Martin Lewis has been taking questions from teenagers who are unsure about how they can afford university.

Martin explains to 5 Live's Nihal Arthanayake how teenagers from middle-income backgrounds may struggle financially this year because the maintenance loan hasn't increased at the rate of inflation.

But he stresses that university, albeit expensive, will set the path for forty years of work and that for some, the long term benefits of a university education may outweigh any short-term financial pain.

"If it's right for you and you find the right course, you're looking at forty years of work and the rest of your life that university has an impact on.

"We have to look at the longer term even if there might be some short-term financial pain for going."
