Married to the Mob
Piera Aiello: from being forcibly married into the mafia, to becoming an MP
Earlier this week it was announced that an Italian Mafia boss, Matteo Messina Denaro, had died of cancer. Denaro had spent 30 years on the run before being arrested on the island of Sicily earlier this year. It's not known how many people he killed but he once boasted of it being enough "to fill a cemetery".
One of the people whose deaths he was responsible for was the anti-mafia prosecutor Paolo Borselino. His killing had a particular effect on one woman Piera Aiello, who had gone to the authorities after her father in law and then her husband were killed by mafia members. Weekend's Krupa Padhy asked Ms Aiello how she felt when she heard that Matteo Messina Denaro had died.

Denaro has died, it was announced 25 September 2023. The 61-year-old was thought to be a boss of the notorious Cosa Nostra Mafia and spent 30 years on the run before he was detained in January.
