Online property fraud: ‘If [the deal] sounds too good to be true, it probably is’

It's estimated that 78% of all fraud, where someone manipulates or scams you into parting with your money starts online, with three quarters of it starting on social media sites. According to the lobby group for banks, UK Finance.

One bank, TSB is pointing the finger specifically at Meta – saying that “scams taking place through Meta-owned companies, so Facebook Marketplace, WhatsApp and Instagram account for 80 percent of fraud cases at TSB”.

Facebook’s parent company Meta say their platforms have systems to block scammers, and people can report content with a few simple clicks. They also point out that they work with the police and that financial services advisers now have to be FCA authorised to target UK users.
