Sarina Wiegman: ‘For the bigger picture of the women’s game, I think it’s good.’

Sarina Wiegman speaks to 5 Live about Emma Hayes’ departure from Chelsea FC.

Lioness head coach Sarina Wiegman spoke to 5 Live Breakfast’s Rick Edwards about Emma Hayes leaving Chelsea and what it means for women’s football.

Wiegman told Rick that Emma Hayes’ impact has been felt at Chelsea FC but also in the wider women’s football world.

“It’s really incredible what she has achieved… We need more coaches like Emma.â€

Seeing female managers in both the men’s and women’s game is important.

“What you hope that with her visibility and with more coaches that are visible, that you get more female coaches that can do a great job.â€

“Whatever level you coach, we need more women in football.â€

Speaking on her own experience of equality in the game, Wiegman said: “Since I’ve come in and worked for the FA, I’ve felt treated so equal.â€

She went on to say that equality is not just about money and pay. It is also important that facilities and staff members are of the same standard in both the men’s and women’s game.

“It's about all the facilities, all the opportunities we get to perform at our highest level.â€
