In August, Elvin booked an appointment online to see a urologist at Southend Hospital, but discovered he may have to wait an estimated 46 weeks.

In a statement, Matthew Hopkins at the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust said: "Around one in eight people are waiting for treatment in Southend, which is in line with national NHS waiting list figures. Southend University Hospital cares for patients from across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest Trusts in the country.
