
‘A pair of underpants had been soaked in spice’
The Chief Inspector of Prisons for England and Wales says it “seems to be impossible to stop drugs coming in”.
Charlie Taylor is His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons. He’s responsible for checking conditions in jails.
Speaking to ѿý Radio 5 Live’s Nicky Campbell, he says “prisons are rife with drugs. They come in over walls, on drones. Better searching of staff and prisoner body scans have helped but it continues to be a huge problem”
“You’re up against sophisticated organised crime – you can make more money selling inside than on the street”.
The Ministry of Justice says it’s investing £100 million in security to crime in prisons including drugs. The funding includes phone-blocking technology, drug dogs and X-ray body scanners.
